Experience the central mountain ranges of New Caledonia’s Grande Terre as you ride amongst the giant ferns and look out to the fringing reefs.
Features
- enjoy a new southwestern Pacific cycle touring destination, and see spectacular and remote waterfalls, mountain ranges and coastal scenery. Explore a trail only rarely cycled, and ride high mountain trails that are grass not dirt
- swim, snorkel or paddle in tropical waters of the largest coral lagoon in the world, or a cool and clear mountain river
- experience a diverse range of food and culture -Melanesian tribus and communities and the real deal French imports at supermarket prices
- ride a mix of traffic-free mountain trail, riding about 30 kilometres per day but climbing about 1,000 metres per day with a maximum of 7 riders in the group, with van and bike trailer support
- stay at some of the island’s loveliest locations and local tribus as well as a mix of gites (lodges) and hotels
Potential itinerary*
DAY 1
Pick up at Noumea or Tontouta Airport and transit by van and trailer a short distance to Farino. Prepare bikes then ride a short trail in Park of the Giant Ferns then settle down to relax with the group at a dusk soiree.
DAY 2
Riding a route circling the edge of the Provincial Park on a rarely used gravelled access road to a Melanesian village nestled in the forested foothills for lunch then transit to the east coast .
DAY 3
Ride a mountain trail rising to a major peak in the area and after lunch cruise down the other side to the east coast. Then transit down the west coast to a beachside auberge.
DAY 4
Rest day that can include snorkelling, reef visit by glass-bottom boat, golf or MTB trails, then transit to a Noumea Hotel.
DAY 5
Cycling in Noumea along a coastal pathway, exploring a hinterland rail trail and visiting the world-renowned Tjibaou Cultural Centre
DAY 6
Visit the Blue River Park and the southeast and experience the red soils and natural features of the Regional Park, and perhaps see the cagou, the national bird, as well as giant kaori (kauri) trees. Then return to Noumea for a dusk soiree next to the Baie des Citrons beach. (+ a Hotel breakfast on the last/7th day)
Prices and Inclusions
Cost for the 6 nights/7 days tour will be about AUD$650/day* per person with a booking deposit of AUD$600 required to secure a place and made at the same time as completing a booking form. This deposit is refundable where there are exceptional circumstances, or where the tour does not proceed.
The ride price includes: all meals and accommodation; e-mountain bike hire and charging for the duration of the tour; an experienced guide and detailed ride & country info as a PDF; all transits; van & trailer luggage carrying and ride support. The ride price does not include air fares, and transit from Noumea back to Tontouta airport which need to be booked and paid for by each rider.

Why not stay longer?
The ride dates are fixed but hey, you can stay for a longer holiday! There are plenty of enticing options to see more of New Caledonia before or after the ride such as the Isle of Pines and the Loyalty Islands, whale watching in the South of the main island at Prony, trekking and seeing the country’s amazing natural species diversity, or scuba diving over the largest lagoon in the world.
