bike-it! tour

The ride price for the tour includes:

Meals - breakfast and dinner meals and non-alcoholic beverages to accompany meals being provided as part of the accommodation. Dinner meals will include two complimentary bottles of wine for the group. A basic lunch consisting of freshly made baguettes, fruit and a chilled water will be provided to each rider. Snack items and/or drinks (alcoholic or otherwise) along the way, or a meal purchased at a food outlet or restaurant outside of the meals provided with the accommodation is the responsibility of each rider.

Accommodation - accommodation at gite/hotel is typically on a twin-share basis. Dormitory rooms are only used in an emergency as a one-off situation where single/twin rooms are not available and at short notice. A single room supplement of AUD$650 can be made but as there are limited options for lodge and hotel accommodation in New Caledonia in the more remote areas of Grande Terre, the ability to provide a single room can depend on room availability at each location.

Ride Information - including a detailed itinerary with contact information for all accommodations, hard and soft copy ride map, a GPS route, and supporting information and all forward bookings for accommodations and side tours. A detailed typical gear list will be emailed to help the packing process.

Experienced Ride Guide - an Australian and French-speaking cycle guide with over 25 years touring experience, 16 years cycle touring experience in New Caledonia and current First Aid qualifications. The guide will also carry a mobile phone and emergency beacon. See more

• Support van - equipped with bike trailer, first aid kit, drinking water, and basic bike tools will be available throughout the tour and will follow the riders, except for Day 6 when riding a section of the Blue River Park management road that does not have public vehicle access.

• Luggage carried - the support van will carry one item of baggage (max 23kg) for each person from one accommodation location to the next. It will be the responsibility of each rider to ensure that they have placed their baggage into the van prior to departing on each day's ride.

• Transits between Tontouta airport and the start of the ride. Transit to, or pick up from, Noumea fro return to Tontouta can be arranged at a competitive additional fee. Transits from Tontouta are made using Nautilus Tours' purpose-built bike trailer and mini-van. This can comfortably carry up to 8 riders, bikes and luggage.

• Bike boxes and purpose-built bike bags can be stored with us on arrival in Noumea for reuse on the return journey. Bike boxes are not allowed to be stored at Tontouta airport, they are not sold at the airport, and they are difficult to obtain in Noumea. We strongly recommend that you hire a bike for the tour. Please enquire as to bike hire rates if a rented bike in New Caledonia is required.

The ride price does not include air fares, travel insurance, transit from Noumea to Tontouta Airport on return and additional food and drinks. Airfares need to be booked and paid for by each rider, with return economy air fares ex Sydney or Auckland are typically AUD$600-800. See the Tour Details page for airline links. The ride price is based on each rider bringing their own bicycle and associated riding equipment (eg. lights, pump, panniers etc.).

The ride dates are fixed but hey, you can stay for a longer holiday! There are plenty of enticing options to see more of New Caledonia before or after the ride such as the Isle of Pines and the Loyalty Islands, whale watching in the South of the main island at Prony, trekking and seeing the country's amazing natural species diversity, or scuba diving over the largest lagoon in the world. Check out the information page on New Caledonia to find out about some places, people and activities to experience if you stay longer. Bike-it! Tours can prepare for you a low-cost but high value customised-itinerary, so please contact us if you are interested.

Notes / Comments
The ride details page shows what is included in the ride payment
The ride start and finish times are designed to coincide with daily flight arrivals from Sydney and Auckland. If you want to arrive in New Caledonia earlier than these ride dates, or stay longer after the ride conclusion, please indicate this on the Bookings Form
Those joining the tour whom are resident in New Caledonia or are already in-country will need to arrive at Tontouta Airport with sufficient time to meet the ride group arriving by plane at Tontouta airport
Bike boxes (and/or purpose built bike bags) are required by airlines for travel. You can bring your own box or they can be purchased at Australian airports from Qantas for about AUD$20. The weight of the bike box is included in the total luggage weight. Note that bike boxes can't be stored at Tontouta Airport, the airport does not sell any, and they are difficult to obtain in Noumea. Because of this, we strongly recommend that you hire a bike for the tour. See FAQs on bike hiring

Tours is tour host, and Nautilus Tours contracted to provide on-ground services are not able to provide activity-specific accreditation nor insurances to cover riders for these tours in New Caledonia. Participants are encouraged to have their own accident insurances to cover loss and injury, and medical insurance which covers medical treatment and evacuations.
